After the Great Patriotic War, architects considered The forecourt is not only the front gate of the capital of Belarus, but also as the gateway of the entire Country of the Soviets.
Therefore, after the war, two rather pompous eleven–storey twin towers, slightly stylized as defensive towers of an ancient castle, were built opposite the station. The building complex was named the “Gates of the City". The walls were richly decorated with stucco. Sculptures of peasants, workers and Red Army soldiers were “settled” on the upper tiers. On one of the towers, the clock is the largest in Belarus (its diameter is more than three and a half meters, it is more than a hundred years old, brought as a trophy from Germany). Today, in combination with the modern station building, they create an expressive ensemble.
